Dancing Leaves Slouchy Hat by Drops Designs

It’s autumn (or fall) and in the DROPS yarn world that means it’s Merino sale time.  I’ve decided to knit a beautiful beret from their new catalogues but found the pattern incredibly difficult to follow SO, being me, I’ve re-written the pattern in a way we Brits would find more accessible.

I’ve also included the charts for the hat but repositioned them so they align together.  You’ll notice lines across the charts every 8 rows, these link up with paragraph breaks in the text to make it easier to keep track of where you are up to.  If you like working from charts, why not copy and paste the chart onto a sheet and use a 2nd blank sheet to cover up the previous lines.  I’m actually doing that electronically having added a “rectangle” to the Excel worksheet which I’m moving up the page as I work.  If you would like an electronic copy of the pattern please email me.  There is no charge as DROPS patterns are free.  (sue@weknit-youcantoo.co.uk)

If you have any problems with the pattern, let me know.  I’m currently just past the tricky part of adding chart A3 and having written out the whole pattern I feel as if I’d knitted it already.  It’s a lovely pattern to work once you can “see” how the repeats work and are formed.

I’d also recommend long circulars.  I started with 80cm but have just changed to 120cm.  I use KnitPro Symfonie interchangeables and also opted for 4mm needles as I’m a bit of a tight knitted.

So here it is
