Comfort Chronicle Wristwarmers

Having recently completed the beautiful Comfort Chronicle poncho by Drops (pattern 172-22)

Comfort Chronicles Poncho.jpg

comfort-chronicles-poncho-and-wwI decided to use my left over yarn to knit some long wristwarmers.  I’ve worn the poncho a few times and as I tend to like 3/4 sleeves on my tops my lower arms get cold when I’m out as the poncho also have 3/4 length sleeves.  (Am I making sense?)

I’ve struggled to find a pattern I liked for the wristwarmers so once again I’ve had to resort to designing my own.  I decided to use the large cable motif from the poncho as the feature of the warmers.

Comfort Chronicles Wristwarmer 1.jpgThe wrist-warmers are knitted in the round on long circular needles using the magic loop method.  The pattern is written line by line (as we Brits are used to following) so may appear long winded but hopefully it will be easy to follow.  The pattern could also be knitted flat by casting 58sts then working the first and last stitch of every row in garter stitch (ie knit stitch) either end of the pattern given below.  This will provide sufficient edging for sewing up.

This is an intermediate pattern so I have assumed knowledge of most common abbreviations.

Yarn – Drops Nepal – light grey – 100g (aran weight yarn)

Needles – 4mm circular

Abbreviations

C3B – slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and place at back of work, knit 3 sts from main needle then 3 sts from cable needle.

T1B – slip next st onto cable needle, place at back of work, knit next 3sts then purl st from cable needle

T3F – slip next 3sts onto cable needle, place at front of work, purl next st, then knit 3 sts from cable needle

k2tog – knit 2 stitches together

SSK – slip the next 2 sts purlwise to right needle then work these 2 sts together by placing the left needle into the front of the sts.

p2tog – purl 2 together

p2togtbl – purl 2 together through the back of the loops

M1 – make 1 by picking up the loop between the sts and knitting into the back of the loop to prevent a hole being made.

Left Wrist-warmer

Cuff

Using Nepal and 4mm circular needles, cast on 56 sts using long tail method.  Join to work in the round.

Work 8 rows *p2, k2* rib

Divide the stitches so that you have 34sts on the first needle and 22sts on the 2nd needle.  The first 32sts will continue in p2, k2 rib and include the arm decreases whilst the 24sts will provide the cable pattern (shown in blue).  Although it isn’t vital to split your stitches in this way I find it helps to keep the decreases and the pattern section separate.  If working flat, place a stitch marker after the 35th stitch (this takes into account the extra stitch at the beginning of the row).

Thumb

Slip thumb stitches onto needle and rejoin yarn leaving about 8 inches (20cm) of yarn. Divide sts to knit in the round.  Keeping rib pattern correct work 6 rows.  Cast off in rib.

Finally sew in ends.  Use the end from joining in the thumb to close any gap between thumb and hand.

Right Wrist-warmer

Work as Left Wrist-warmer as far as Thumb Gusset (row 40) then work as follows:
